The flag fo the African Union (AU) was adopted on 31 January 2010 and consists of a green field with a white radiating sun in the center. Each ray of the sun points to a gold star representing a member state - there were 53 when the flag was adopted. A silhouette of the continent of Africa is placed in the center of the flag.
The flag was chosen from several aspirants who had submitted their designs in a competition. Out of a total of 106 entries, the one designed by Yadesa Bojia was chosen as the flag of the African Union.
