The Flag of Hungary
The Hungarian flag consists of three horizontal equal-sized stripes of red, white, and green. The red stripe is at the top, the green stripe is at the bottom and the white stripe is in the middle. The Hungarian flag is simple yet striking in design.
This tricolor combination has historical roots dating back to the 18th century. Red represents strength, white symbolizes fidelity and freedom, and green signifies hope and the lush landscapes of Hungary.
Tajikistan, India and Niger – Three Countries with Similar Flags to the Flag of Hungary
There are three countries whose flags bear a striking resemblance to the Hungarian flag – Tajikistan, India and Niger. Each flag has three equal-sized horizontal stripes in red/orange (saffron), white, and green. Even though the layout is similar, each flag has its own unique design elements and colors based on distinct historical and cultural narratives.
Tajikistan Flag

Hungary and Tajikistan both feature a tri-color design in their national flags with horizontal stripes of red, white, and green. While Hungary’s flag is a simple tri-color arrangement, Tajikistan’s flag has a central emblem – a royal crown with seven stars. These two flags are truly very similar and can be confused easily because their proportions are also the same.
India Flag

The national flags of Hungary and India have similar designs but the color of the top-most stripe is red in the Hungarian and saffron (orange) in the Indian flag. In Hungary’s flag, red, white, and green stripes represent strength, freedom and hope, respectively. And in the flag of India saffron, white, and green stripes represent courage, purity and growth, respectively. Additionally, the Indian flag has a central symbol, a navy blue colored 24-spoked wheel known as the Ashoka Chakra.
Niger Flag

The color of the top stripe in the flag of Niger is burnt orange while the one in the Hungarian flag is a deep red. Additionally, the flag of Niger has an orange disc (representing the sun) in the middle. The proportions of the two flags are also markedly different.
Flags design and style: Simple Tri-color of three horizontal stripes
The Hungarian flag has a common design element shared by three other flags, which includes three horizontal stripes in the colors of red, white, and green. However, it stands out with its unique rectangular shape, which distinguishes it from the flags of Tajikistan, India and Niger. Unlike Niger’s almost square flag, Hungary’s flag maintains a standard rectangular format of a 1:2 height-width ratio. Interestingly, Hungary’s flag is simple and does not include a central emblem unlike the flags of India with Ashoka Chakra or the flag of Tjikistan with a crown with seven stars.
