April is indeed the fourth month of the year in both the Gregorian and Julian calendars. The Latin name for April is “Aprilis“. The month is marked by a series of festivals devoted to aspects of rural life since it was a busy month for farmers and it also refers to the opening of flowers and the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. In ancient Roman culture, April was also associated with the goddess Venus, who was revered as the patron of love, beauty, and fertility. The Roman festival of Venus, known as the Veneralia, was celebrated on April 1st.
